Book Review: Alas, Babylon

Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank is a fantastic novel, especially for readers intimate with Florida. It was probably written before you were born but you really wouldn't know that except for the references to the main character's car, a Bonneville.

The book is set in Central Florida and revolves around a community called Fort Repose. Randy Bragg, gets insider information about a coming war and is with the task of preparing and surviving. The ingenuity of the characters makes you want to take notes.

This very realistic tale will challenge your opinions on what really matters. The suspense is excellent and the pacing of the story is allows you to become invested in the characters yet never bored. Plus, a bit of a spoiler, there are minimal character deaths.

I highly recommend this book if you liked the Hunger Games.
